 Adventure Trips:

 

1. Glass-bottom kayak eco-tour for two at Aquarena, with all equipment provided, and do check out their website for all the fun things to do at Aquarena:   http://aquarena.txstate.edu/.  They arrange tours to fit your time schedule, with a guide.  Learn about this unique spring.   $80 value, minimum bid $45.

 

2.  Another glass-bottom kayak eco-tour at Aquarena, identical to the above trip.

3.  Canoe trip donated by TG Canoe and Kayak, on the beautiful San Marcos River with boats, paddles, life jackets and shuttle provided, as well as a DVD presentation of the trip chosen (so you will know where you are going).  Choose a 2, 5 or 7-mile trip.  See http://tgcanoe.com  for details and photos.  Each trip is for two persons in their choice of a canoe or two solo kayaks, or one two-person kayak.  Their website also has much info about the boats that they sell, and information about the river, where they have been paddling for several decades now, and taking care of the river too.

3. Buchanan Adventure Tours donated a kayak and hiking excursion for two people, pick a date June-September, morning or afternoon. San Marcan's Duane and Evelyn TeGrotenhuis and family are now operating this wonderful tour on the Canyon of the Eagles, Lake Buchanan near Burnet, Texas.  Described as an easy to moderate trip, you will have a chance to learn basic kayak paddling, hike with a friendly guide, view wildlife and learn about history and geology. Use recreational touring kayaks, either solo or tandem.  Paddles and life jackets included, as well as LCRA Park Fees.  See habitat that is used by Bald Eagles, Black-capped Vireos and Golden Cheek Warblers. Reservations required.  Check out all the details about the trip

 Classes/Lessons:

 

1.   One full week of Kid’s Camp by Power Olympic Kayak Center.  June 7-11, June 21-25, July 5-9, July 19-23, or August 2-6.  Starts 8 a.m. and runs till 5 p.m.  Students bring brown bag lunches. A great time for kids to learn from each other while they are learning to paddle canoes and kayaks.  They will learn how to appreciate the San Marcos River, and along the way instill discipline and self-confidence in this week of paddling.  See   http://kayakinstruction.org

2.  Raku Workshop at Eye of the Dog Art Center, two day weekend workshop on two Saturdays in a row, April 3 and April 10.  Called Big Fire/Big Fun, these workshops are with Billy Ray Mangham, local ceramic artist and sculptor at the art center which is only 5 miles from IH 35, north of San Marcos in the Lime Kiln Road area.  More info can be found at http://eyeofthedogartcenter.com .

3.   A tie-dye party for up to 12 to 20 participants, for ages 12 and up, with all necessary supplies and instruction by an experienced tie-dyer who has managed many such events.  Guaranteed fun, choose your site: at Robin Wood’s place or your own home.

4. Two Day Weekend Workshop: Movement, Meditation and Creativity, taught by Jerry Kimmel. Combine Yoga and art to stretch your creativity! April 10 and 11, Saturday from 1-6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Description:  Focus on awaking your creative abilities by combining Kundalini Yoga (the yoga of awareness and your potential), and meditation.  The first part of each day will be a set of yoga exercises (no previous yoga experience required and adapted for all levels of physical abilities) combined with a meditation to get your cells vibrating!  This will be followed by a time for individual creativity in the medium and method of your choice—painting, drawing, photography, writing, journaling, music, dance, wherever your heart leads.  We will have a time of discussion and presentations of our creations and will end each day with another yoga set and a meditation. (The classes are at the Community Yoga Center, 312 Mary, San Marcos. This center is a part of the nonprofit Yoga and Health founded by Cindy von Miller (who is a wonderful Hatha Yoga teacher). The center has classes every day with several types of yoga along with specialty classes for children, prenatal, and seniors. There are a variety of Weekend workshops including Yoga, creativity, movement, meditation, music, dance and more. They have 6 teachers and have space for others if anyone wishes to apply. She specializes in beautiful outdoor portraits and comes to central Texas often, on location. Her studio is in Dallas but she works all over Texas.  We will have examples of her gorgeous photos on display at the event.
